The Department for Work and Pensions launch age discrimination guides

The DWP’s Age Positive campaign has launched a series of booklets to help businesses get to grips with age discrimination.

The series covers 11 subjects such as recruitment, training and flexible retirement. Each guide includes frequently asked questions, practical tips and case studies from companies of many sizes and sectors, from South Wales Forgemasters to Coca Cola.

Entrepreneur Duncan Bannatyne – star of the BBC’s Dragons’ Den – supports Age Positive, which promotes the benefits of employing a mixed-age workforce, including older workers. He says: “In my career, I’ve seen successful entrepreneurs and business figures, both young and old, defy ageist stereotypes. The business community needs to wake up to the reality of today’s society and make age diversity part of their business.”
