No mountain high enough
One of the UK’s top ski resorts has won Age Positive recognition from the Department for Work and Pensions. CairnGorm Mountain Ltd is Scotland’s top winter sports destination, with a permanent staff team of about 75.
The company was awarded Age Positive Employer Champion status for its efforts to recruit people regardless of how old they are.
HR officer Christine Briddon said: “We are always very careful when advertising that we don't give the impression that we favour any particular age group.
“What’s important to us are the right attitude and skills. For example, John joined our Customer Services team at the age of 64.
“Coming from a retail and distribution management background, John has a great deal to offer. The work is wide-ranging and John embraces the challenges with gusto.
“We benefit from his positive, calm approach to work and his enthusiasm and reliability are worth their weight in gold.”
Employees who reach the company’s retirement age of 65 are encouraged to continue working where that is their choice.
Age Positive promotes
the benefits of employing a mixed-age workforce that includes older and
younger people.
