The art of pensions
The Arts Council England has set up a website to improve awareness of pensions amongst artists. The website conducted a survey last year that found:
- 70 per cent of respondents did not have a pension
- 51 per cent of respondents did not know what their retirement age would be
- understanding of the benefits of pensions schemes is very low amongst the artistic community, with 90 per cent having poor or no understanding of the tax benefits
The website has sections on why you should save, types of pensions and how they work, and case studies of artists financial arrangements. There is also a collection of useful links and a survey for artists to help grow the research.
