Duvet days? No thanks, I’ll have a pension
Young employees prefer pensions and sharesave schemes to ‘soft’ benefits like gym membership and duvet days (an allowance of one day a year when you can call work and say you're not coming in, even if you don't have holiday booked and you're not ill).
Research by tickbox.net, commissioned by Jardine Lloyd Thompson, showed that more than one in four 25-34 year olds would prefer their company to contribute financially rather than offering them alternative benefits.
Nearly half (47 per cent) of all these employees said they were more concerned about pensions than they were five years ago. Londoners were the most worried (47 per cent) about pensions and those in Northern Ireland the least (27 per cent).
Most people questioned who had a pension felt that they were a good investment, with only 10 per cent saying they regretted setting one up.
