Breast cancer awareness month

October is breast cancer awareness month, and 27 October is ‘In the pink day’. There are events all over the UK to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Approximately 42,000 women and 300 men are newly diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK. Breast cancer causes more than 12,400 deaths each year in the UK. 80 per cent of breast cancer cases occur in women over the age of 50.

Women aged 50 to 70, who are registered with a GP, are invited for free breast screening every three years. Your local screening centre or primary care trust should contact you and arrange an appointment before your 53rd birthday.
