Life expectancy at 65 reaches record level

Life expectancy at age 65 in the United Kingdom has reached its highest level ever for both men and women. Men aged 65 can expect to live a further 16.6 years and women a further 19.4 years if mortality rates remain the same as they were in 2003-05.

With such a long time living after retirement age it is a good idea to start saving early. If you are interested in your options for the future, have a look at the I am planning ahead section on this site.

If you are coming up to retirement age and want to put off leaving work, you can find out how in our State Pension deferral section.
