Women and Pensions Report published by DWP
The Department for Work and Pensions has published a new report on women and pensions.
‘Women and pensions: The evidence’ has examined how women interact with the state and private pension systems and how in many cases that compares to men. The report looks at how theses systems have provided for women in the past and what we can expect to see in the future.
Key findings from the report include:
- 1.3 million of the 1.9 million people lifted out of absolute poverty by Pension Credit are women
- Female employment rates have increased from 55% in 1983 to over 70% now. But only 38% of today’s working age women are contributing to a private pension compared to 46% of men
The report has been produced as part of the National Pensions Debate which aims to increase understanding of the challenges that face future pensioners. A dedicated Debate website has been set up to capture the opinions, views and experiences of a wide range of public and stakeholders, so that a consensus can be reached on a solution to ensure a fair and adequate retirement income for all.
